An emergency bivvy is a blanket made of reflective material and insulation that’s designed to keep you warm in emergencies. The SOL Heatsheets Emergency Bivvy from Adventure Medical Kits was something we had to try for ourselves, so it came with us on our next outdoor adventure. We liked the weight (less than 4 ounces) and cost but could it replace the emergency space blankets people usually keep in their cars? Thankfully yes! It comes packed tight into an easy-to-carry tube that weighs less than 2 pounds when fully loaded and can be deployed as either a ground mat or shelter depending on your situation – what more do you need during an unexpected disaster?!
The Emergency Bivvy is a critical tool for any outdoors person. The first impression of this compact emergency bivy was that it truly fits in the palm of your hand, but packs an enormous punch when needed. I tested its capabilities by setting up my tent and laying down inside with nothing more than just myself to see how comfortable it would be on cold nights while protecting me from harsh winds or rains during the day time as well. This product performed beyond expectation!
If you’re looking for a lightweight, compact emergency shelter that won’t take up much space in your bug out bag then this is the product. The mylar blanket has an easy to use design with no complicated features and can be used as either a bivvy sack or even on its own like any other typical backpacking tent. It takes only seconds to set it up and will offer protection from both wind chill and rain (though not snow) which are the two most likely weather conditions should we find ourselves needing more than just our clothes during such situations of need(s).
At only 3.8oz it could fit in a glove box, everyday carry bag a bike bag, backpack under your car seat etc., but I
Stay dry and warm with these packable emergency bivvy sacks.
I’ve always wondered why people keep emergency blankets in their car, because the ones I have come across are big and bulky with no real purpose. However, there is a company that has made one specifically for emergencies; so if you need an urgent blanket fix while on your way to safety at least it’ll be easy enough to find! One of my favorite features about this design was how fast it unrolled – as soon as I pulled out the little nylon case, I had my body completely covered with just a few seconds.
I think you need to talk about something other than yourself.
Only to find out these emergency blankets were built for anything but an emergency situation? The ones that I handled-hardly any softness or ease when unfolding them-were better used as signal devices than protection
What is the Survival Cache?
The emergency bivvy is an excellent way to stay dry and warm when you’re in the wild. The material of this bag can be used as a wind breaker, or it could protect your head while hiking back to safety. I had problems getting mine into it’s original package- but don’t let that stop you from buying one for those rainy days!
The SOL Heatsheets Emergency Bivvy is a versatile piece of equipment that can be used in many ways. One, it protects you from the elements when you’re stranded out on an adventure and need to sleep outside – which would otherwise lead to being cold, wet or even frostbitten. Two, if there’s any chance for visibility at all in your surroundings (e.g., like during sunset), then using this bivvy as a signal mirror could help rescue teams find us much faster!
I like this bivvy because it’s so lightweight and easy to pack away in my backpack. I’m close to 6’0 tall, 195 lbs., and there is plenty of room for me with all my clothes on or off inside the bag. The marketing department at Adventure Medical Kits says they reflect 90% of your body heat back into you when sleeping out in the cold – but what does that really mean? Is not sure how they are measuring that…
My head sticks out a little bit from under one end where the zipper closes around just below eye level, which makes sense though as 10% doesn’t seem accurate if people have their heads sticking up over top! So while it isn’t replacing a real sleep system (
On the other hand, for those of you who are looking to buy a bivvy sack that will keep them dry and warm while they sleep or wait out an emergency situation such as being stranded without shelter in cold weather. The TACT Bivvy is worth every penny spent on it because not only does it provide comfort with its stretchy material but also warmth by retaining heat well due to using Heatsheets which can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078V5T2LH/?tag=tact-biofleece
